Prior to entering the field of M&A consulting, Mr. Kerr was president of Marketing Tools, a book and film design, production and marketing company in California. A Business School graduate of San Diego State University, Mr. Kerr has spent most of the past 16 years working in the publishing and printing industries. Mr. Kerr also writes a quarterly newsletter to his clients and articles for as much as six media and printing industry magazines, conducts seminars and workshops six to seven times a year. After receiving his B.S. from the University of California at Berkeley and his M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School, Mr. Smith began his entertainment career at the CBS owned and operated television station in Chicago. He was promoted to Director of Strategic Planning and then subsequently promoted to Chief Financial Officer for the CBS Television Network on the West Coast, overseeing 80 people and $1 billion in operating and capital expenditures. Additionally he served on the Management Board of CBS/Fox Studios and CBS/MTM Studios. Concurrent with his CBS duties, with CBS' special permission, Mr. Smith also executive produced an independent feature film. Subsequently he left CBS to become Vice President, Business Development for the broadcast division of IMG, the leading sports marketing and management company in the world. Mr. Smith developed and ran four new business areas, overseeing over 40 home video programs (including projects with John Madden, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Wimbledon and the Masters), a thirteen episode CBS animated television series, ten live two-hour broadcasts on ESPN, and a 156 program in-flight series for Delta Airlines. Mr. Smith also consummated a 130-episode television agreement with Home Box Office that was the largest program acquisition in the history of Comedy Central. The programs garnered two ACE Award nominations. He later became President and majority owner of a location-based new media business that provided professional offices with customized internal marketing systems supported by commercial sponsors. At the time Mr. Smith sold the company, it had an installed base of approximately 4,000 monitors in 1000 venues and had developed six sponsorship programs. After the sale he became the Chief Operating Officer of Stars Online, a celebrity-driven entertainment Internet portal in start-up phase financed by the public company, eMarketplace. Mr. Smith established the corporate infrastructure, developed key strategic alliances, identified and acquired assets returning a 80% ROI, and negotiated talent agreements to create and operate official web sites for major celebrities.
